I am going to have to work from home for a month or so because of an injury. Does anyone know if/how I can get a free trial of Excel as most of the data I have to deal with from the office is on Excel?

You can download OpenOffice for free. This includes a spreadsheet, database, word processor etc. It will read Excel files and save them as Excel files.
Try here:

Certain licenses for MS Office do allow you to also install it at home on another PC.

Not sure which ones, but it may be worth looking into.

How many times can I install Office 2003 Editions?

You can install one copy of Office Professional Edition 2003, Office Small Business Edition 2003, and Office Standard Edition 2003 on your main computer and another on your laptop computer for your exclusive, but non-concurrent use. To install a version of these Office 2003 Editions on more than these two computers, you must obtain another license for the program.

You can install Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 on up to three computers in your household if a household member is qualified. You can work with Office 2003 Editions at your desk and when mobile. Note Licenses for the 2003 release of Office acquired preinstalled on new computers are single-computer licenses that cannot be transferred or installed on another computer.
You can also download a free trial of Office 2007 from Microsofty at the moment thats valid for about a year. Its a large download though so it may be worth looking at either paying for them to send it to you on DVD or its been packaged on some computer magazines at the moment.

I know its a BETA but its very stable.
