cleaning CDs

One of my favourite CDs has starting jumping and not playing correctly, how do I clean them in the hope that it will rectify the problem.

May just be your lazer that needs cleaning. You can buy a CD disc that cleans the heads

Most scratches on cds and dvds merely damge the tranparent surface of the disc and not the reflective layer that actually contains the information.
