Windows XP recovery

I want to keep this brief - I have Windows XP. The System Restore & System Recovery options have been completely deleted. I am not able to do any type of Non-Deconstructive or Deconstructive Restore Operation. If I purchase the Windows XP Home Edition Pack (With CD-Rom), can I rectify the problem? Will Re-installing XP over the corrupted XP overwrite the original files, and re-add the destroyed files??

From memory I think you can boot from the XP CD and chose a repair option which will reinstall all of your system files but retain your installed applications. I beleive it is under the recovery console. It says on the following web site that you should install it first: http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/howto-12.htm

The recovery CD will do a completely new installation of the operating system and will wipe everything from the original installation so make sure you back everything up (favorites, search for .doc, .xls, .pst and outlook express files .dbx) and make notes of your email setup etc The good thing is that it is designed for your machine so you don't have to install device drivers etc
