silly symbol

I have typed 2 word documents today and accidentally pressed something so now I have that silly symbol like a backwards p in bold at the beginning of a line and at the end and dots in between each word - HOW do i get rid of this???

You will find the reverse P symbol in the "standard" tool bar in word, just click it and it will go away.
On the tool bars you should see this symbol and you just need to click on it to get rid. The symbol is on the 'standard' set of tool bars.
The keyboard shortcut that toggles this feature on and off is:

CTRL - SHIFT - 8

That is probably what you pressed by mistake.
