I think the advantage with ipods and joggging would be the cases you can get - gel surrounds etc which protect your pod from damage. I use ipod shuffle it holds enough music to keep me happy, it is basic it use so when you running you are not distracted too much, and you can get accessories such as an armband so you can attach your ipod shuffle to you upper arm or keyring attachments or round the neck attachments- would bounce around a bit though. I have been given the arm band attachment it looks good but have not tried it yet. All in all goog choice so yes would recommend.

thanks but i was more concerned about its insides.
Depends which iPod. Nano and shuffle are both solid state. Original iPod has a hard drive, not suggested for jogging.

If you only want it for jogging, and aren't interested in the Nike+ system, then the shuffles are cool. Very. very small. Otherwise, if you want to use it for other trips too so want a screeen etc., get a nano. Both are aluminium-clad, so will stand up to stuff.

i was looking at the true ipod as its only 10 more expensive than an 8gig nano but has almost 4 times the memory.

maybe a nano it is then !
They're far better value (though note, new video iPod has been rumoured for ages now); but if you're going to be jogging, you'll need a solid state one.
