just wondering how others' do it; Do you have many icons or few on your desktop? - i have many, about 60. Do you think an almost empty desktop looks pooey, or cool?

As the saying goes "A tidy desktop is the sign of a sick mind".

At present I have about 80 icons of various levels of rubbishness. Periodically I create a new folder named along the lines "Desktop as at 26th June 2003" and throw all the shite in that, going back to a pleasantly sparse desktop.

I have never had the need to go back into these folders to retrieve anything and I eventually delete them!

mmm. headtime, sounds familiar.. toolbars called 'misc', pretty useful too, i got 50 icons in one of those; - got to have a 'misc' folder. :-)
have an (almost) empty desktop - get webshots (free www.webshots.com) and get some cool wall paper photos on your desktop! my vote = cool
Virtually empty - now I have a fairly decent PC, I just open up a new window from the Start bar, as I usually have four (or more) IE windows open.
I like an empty desktop. i drag all my desktop icons onto the quick launch bar on the taskbar (have made the taskbar two rows deep so that running prog buttons sit above the quick launch bar). It pleases me to see my lovely desktop wallpaper all empty. Pity about the recycle bin!!

thanks for great answers, been curious about this; any more? I got that config too roomby but also a half-full desktop. Had sidebar and topbar toolbars but they keep leaping out at you. though i'm 80 full, i think empty is best, LeMarchand; must tidy up. erm, darth, isn't Webshots a spyware or something..
...not if you turn the automatic web-update off.
Only keep the very frequently used ones on top. Others in a folder called 'desktop' :-), and have the desktop activated on the taskbar. Can quickly get to them, or anything in the directory, without wearing the mouse-button out.
Running XP I can check or uncheck show desktop icons and so have a lovely clean or pleasantly full desktop according to my state of mind.
