I get my tv through NTL cable. If I get an HD ready tv do they provide the relevant set top box. There is no mention of HD tv on their website.

As far as I can tell, NTL are not yet providing any HDtv.

Telewest do have some hdtv programmes, you need a special hd box and it costs a minimum 10 per month on top of your normal charges.

If you record a hd broadcast on to a normal video or dvd recorder, you lose the hd and just view in normal tv.

Thanks Ethel. It`s what I thought. That is dissapointing. I`m thinking of changing to Sky. I had to wait 3 years for NTL to provide Caller ID on my phone!
Don't change yet for the sake of HDTV - unless you are a massive sports fan.

There are very few programmes broadcast in HDtv at the moment.
Apparently the signal the NTL use is not full HD, but their equivalent, but the box they do provide has a hard drive and you can record on it, a bit like sky+

Thanks for your help. We will probably go for the new tv and wait until there are more programmes in HD before we decide to go down that road.
