How do you play an mpeg movie file?

I've got an mpeg movie file, but when I try and play it in either windows media player or nero showtime it plays the sound but the screen is black

I am no expert in this area, but I THINK it means that media player and showtime have not got the right CODECS to play the image.

Try dowbloading VLC media player, this often plays things that media player cannot.

Some media files are created with something called DivX and I do not think media player or showtime can play them.

This whole area is a minefield I think.

If it is a DIVX file you can get the codec here:

Media player will then be able to play it.
