do i need an isp?

have got xp laptop with wire capability. don't use my comp at home enough to warrent setting it up but do use it out and about in cafe's etc. I do get the connected through these hotspots, but can't seem to browse the net. Is it that i need a web browser installed or a tyrannical ISP that want's me to rig up my home to their evil montly subscription charges.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You may connect at Cafe's and hotels and such, but you will need to pay them for full internet access. If you wish to browse the internet anywhere then I would suggest getting a 3G Card for the laptop with Vodafone or O2 for example. This will allow you to browse the net wherever you are at a fairly quick speed. (Check for 3G coverage in the areas you will be using it). These cards do have monthly or annual charges though.
