Samungs LCD tellies get good reviews and can do the full 1080p.
Your exact problem, an LCD or Plasma for 1,000 pounds, was discussed on the Gadget Show a week or so back.

You'll not get a plasma that can do 1080p for a grand.
Assuming you want to get the best out of the PS3 of course.

Though I've read (never seen it myself) that the differences between 1080 and 720 are only really noticable on 50inch plus screens.
Got to Currys - look at an LCD from every angle and then look at a plasma from every angle - the answer will be in front of you - the plasma.

Buy plasma everytime - the quality should not be compared to an LCD as there's no comparison. If you have to sacrifice size for plasma then so be it - you'll be disappointed if you dont
