Help with mp3 player

My 4 GB 'ebay' mp3 player shows no free space, I filled it from my mp3 files but now it is saying 'no music files' and won't let me copy any music.
How can remove the files that don't seem to be there?
Any help would be appreciated.

Followed the advice about formatting, this cleared the 'files' and I've been able to copy an mp3 file.
