As a last resort to try to fix our broadband connection problems I have bought another modem (exactly the same, but new). When the man I spoke to from my ISP said about replacing it, he said he'd send an email through with some information I may need. The email contains manual broadband settings, e.g. VPI = 0 VCI = 38 etc, but I don't have a clue what it's all about.

I thought I would just uninstall the current modem, and then start again with the new one. Is it not that simple?

That is the settings you MAY need in the admin page of the router set up.

Forget that for now, and install the router following the instructions that comes with it.
