I am trying to add a bit of film to a video recording but keep getting a gap / No signal message between clips - How can I avoid this

How are you doing the editing, and how accurate does it have to be? I cut the adverts out of "off-air" recordings by judicious use of the "pause" button, but you have to get the timing just right! I pause the copy at the appropriate place and press record (leaving it paused), then press play on the master, unpausing the copy at the place I want to start recording on. This method has worked with many different recoreders over the years! If you want to edit it with pin-point accuracy, if you can input the recordings you want spliced onto your PC, there are a number of editing packages that will let you do this on your PC. You could then output to VHS. (MS Movie Maker, which came with my XP machine would do the trick).
