Installing Virus Software

I want to install Norton on my computer. It says if you suspect you have a virus (which I have) to boot the computer from the CD ROM...I have the option to open Windows from the D drive which I have done and then option 1 asks if want to open using Norton as emergency disc. is this what I need to do as haven't really got a clue. Other alternative is just to install Norton and then virus check from there which might be bteer option as know what doing then, Just not sure what the emergency option does. Can anyone help? Booting from a CD-ROM is a simple process from my experience. So long as you've told your BIOS to "Boot from CD-ROM" then all you need to do it put the disc in the CD-ROM drive as soon as your computer starts. It'll then load the CD and give you the options from there.

Most BIOSes already have the boot from CD-ROM set up so you shouldn't need to do anything more than put the disc in.

However, if you are actually capable of running your system, even if you do have a virus, then I'd suggest you just install Norton AntiVirus onto your system and run it from windows.

I believe the emergency start-up from CD-ROM is just for systems where you cannot actually stay in the Operating System because of the virus.

yes the system is running, so I think I will just install and then do a virus check. Thank you for your helpful advice - I'm learning something useful everyday....

yes orangepeel-install the norton 1st then scan-i booted from the cd on a friends pc and chose the option to scan from there--it took 24hrs to get thru the scan
