volume on laptop

i have a gateway laptop recently purchased from tesco and even at full volume it's not very loud. on quiet movies you can barely hear it. does anyone know any nice tricks to increase the volume?

Make sure both the volume buttons on your laptop and the volume control on the program you use for DVDs are at their highest. Also double click your volume icon in the system tray by the clock (or access the controls in Control Panel) and ensure that all the sliders are at the top.
