I'd say not .... unless you are a bank .... or somthing else really interesting
I have three machines running full on to the internet
1 = no protection
2 = firewall no virus
3 = everything
Looking at my test machine's with firewall - both running zone alarm (I do some stupid stuff with it ... basically trying to get caight out) no more than 15 events this week (basically today)
38 events last week
2020 should be a date ... not a log of events
I am due to get a new computer this winter. Does this mean that all attempts to hack my PC will stop, since the PC won't exist? Or do they get in via email addresses, which will obviously stay the same?

Provided your firewall has 'blocked' all the attempts why worry? There are always people attempting to invade your pc either directly or via email. Provided you have a 'firewall' and 'anti-virus' running you should be ok.
