Hi,

I'm looking at getting a laptop basically to be use for simple pc/internet use i.e. typing documents, researching on the web and poss downloading mucis for the i pod. I've got a budget of ideally 350 but can stretch to 400 at an absolute maximum! I was looking for something that looked a bit different and stumbled across the new Acer Gemstone. So the question - does anyone have one? used one? Have any feedback - good or bad? Also are there any other designs/models/makes would you recommend?

Any advice/suggestions would be great.

Thanks peeps :o )

Acer do lots of different gemstones, so can't comment on the spec. But for your needs, any up to date pc will be up to the job - you don't need to spend a fortune.

I have an Acer laptop - over two years old, very heavy use and not a spot of bother.
I had an Acer which was nothing but trouble, ran very hot, froze frequently and system restore never worked. I now have a Toshiba equium which is a hundred times better than the Acer and costs no more
We have both Acer and Toshiba laptops with no problems at all. It can be a matter of luck I suppose like most things.

John Lewis have some Toshibas at the moment for under 400. Possibly worth a look.
