I keep getting pop-ups whenever I go on the net and I get a message from AVG that I have a virus called 'could be infected homepage' and one called 'downloader small'. AVG removes them but they return next time I log on. I am using XP's firewall. Do I need a better one or will a pop-up stopper help?

I would suggest getting Norton internet security package, it will sort out you virus issues or give you information to get rid of them, as for pop ups, if you set your home page to google.com and download the google task bar, there is a popup blocker with it and it works, also google is free of spyware unlike many other isp home pages
If you get the Google taskbar, read the information on "Privacy". With some of the features, it reports where you have been to Google...
Ditch Internet Explorer! Mozilla Firefox has a built-in popup blocker and browser hijacks don't work on it! No more 'Search Assistant' or 'lop' toolbars :) http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/rel
