BitTorrent files
9 Answers
I am having some problems with BitTorrent and was hoping someone could help. After about 10 minutes of downloading, everything just locks up, I cant even shut down my PC in the normal way, I have to force the shutdown and then wait the the discs to be scanned before I can try again. This happens every single time.I have tried different files,I have even deleted the BitTorrent software and have reloaded a different version, but this problem still happens.I have followed instruction and have opened up the required ports for uploads. Also, when I reboot,it takes about 1 minute for internet explores to open, which has only been this slow since I downloaded the BitTorrent software.I cant believe it is anything to do with my connection or my pc, I use a 1mb broadband connection, and a laptop which is only 7 months old.

TEAK36, there is a problem with the new update of ZA. It comes with a built in anti-virus program, which seems to conflict with just about every other AV programme out there. It worked OK for a day or so on my system by turning the AV off (expand ZA and you should find it), but then all the problems came back. I tried their recommended solution of uninstalling ZA5 and going back to the previous release, but it didn't help. I may not have deleted every file, though - the instructions were quite complex, and not just a simple use of the "uninstall" function, but others on the forum are reporting problems with the reversion to the previous release. There's plenty of discussion here: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp
, go to "Service and Support", the "Zone Labs User Forum" and look in "Installation, Uninstall and Upgrade" (as you have to "accept conditions" to enter, I'm assuming I can't place a direct link here). In the end I had to uninstall ZA as best I could and use a different firewall. I'm currently using Sygate Personal ( http://smb.sygate.com/buy/download_buy.htm
) which is free. It's not as user-friendly as ZA, but seems to be doing the job while (at least on the current version) ZA isn't.
Thanks for your advice everyone, I just have one more question. After reading some of the postings on the Zone Alarm webside, I now wish I had never upgraded to version 5.Rather than go through all of the hassle of uninstalling version 5,can I just restore my pc to the day before I upgraded, would this get rid of version 5?
TEAK36: I was going to try that, but had installed a load of other stuff and wasn't sure what would mess up if I restored :-( . I'm not 100% convinced a restore will clear out all the ZA5 files, but I guess it can't make matters worse - you could always then delete it if it doesn't work. (I would imagine people on their forum would have suggested a Restore if it had been a viable option, though).
