every time i put a short cuton my laptop scren
it puts an files icon as well
how can i avoid doing that

How are you creating your shortcut and what operating system are you using?

clicking save as

I'm not quite sure what it is you are trying to shortcut to? Are you trying to put a shortcut to firefox on your desktop?

what i am trying to do
is put a short of a web site on laptop screen
without the files menu as well

Ah I see. The files directory is needed for the web page to display it's graphics and so on when you are offline. The two need to be in the same area, unless you are going to recode the webpage, which is why it puts the folder there as well.

If it's a shortcut to a webpage when you are online, you can right-click the desktop, choose new - shortcut and type http://www.whatever.com into the location box.
