1080p Digital LCD TV a waste of money ?
21 Answers
An article in the Sunday Times says that paying a few hundred pounds for Full HD 1080p rather than 720/1080i is money wasted as no broadcasts will be on that standard for years yet.
Having just bought a Panasonic to the higher spec have I really wasted my money unless I buy a Blue Ray or HDTV player and high defintion DVD films.

Additional subscription to Sky or Virgin (on top of the usual fee) is needed to view a very limited number of programmes in hd.
The costs of hdtvs fall every month - by the time hdtv is the standard the tvs will be a fraction of today's costs.
We are still not certain hdtv is ever going to be the industry standard. Other formats are being developed and trialed.
However, if you have to buy a new tv because your old one no longer works and you can comfortably afford hdtv and the subscriptions and the hd dvd recorder, then why not?
Although I would stick with a CRT with freeview box (or sky or virgin) for the time being.
