I decided to "go straight" and pay for downloaded music from itunes. However, the tracks I have downloaded will not write to a cd - they are "protected AAC audio files". Is there any way of converting these files so they will write to a cd, and if not, is there any chance whatsoever of stopping people from peer to peer downloading?

You could play them in your audio player, and at the same time record them on an app like Cooledit 2000. Then Save the recording as a wav or mp3. As long as your sound card is OK, you get a result in distinguishable from the original.

That should read indistinguishable, and by 'audio player' I meant i-tunes/winamp or whatever.

Doh! I am an idiot. I had itunes set to burn MP3 cds cos my car has got an MP3 player, so it's not surprising it wouldn't work with the AAC files. Have now changed my settings to burn audio

that reply submitted itself, there must be bad vibes around me and computers today - as I was saying, I have changed my settings to burn audio cds which seems to be working. Cheers for the help Headtime.
