I have recently purchased a Phillips 32PFL 5522 TV, with built-in freeview.

I now wish to purchase a Sony RDR-HXD 870s DVD recorder with 160GB hard drive and built in freeview tuner. ( I am told I will be able to view one freeview channel whilst recording another freeview channel).

Could anyone please explain how I can connect the TV, DVD recorder and VHS recorder?

How many scart sockets would I need, and are the gold ones any better? Also what are HDMI cables and would they be better than scart?

not sure about your connections but HDMI cables are far better than normal scart leads and there is less clutter. You can buy decent hdmi cables for 10.00-20.00 (see www.play.com/ www.amazon.co.uk for great deals) also try get ones which have gold plated tips as they are slightly better. Simply connect hdmi cable from dvd player to tv and you will have far better visual quality. hope that helps
