AVG 7.5 used to do an automatic 30 second update every day. As far as I can tell, this isn't happening in the same way with AVG 8.0. Do I need to open from the AVG icon and manually update, or is it taking care of things without telling me?

AVG 8.0 carries out automatic updates, I think the default is at 08.00 or on start up of your computer. A little message does pop up at the bottom right of your screen but blink and you will miss it.
You can check you are set up for automatic updates by opening AVG, selecting tools and opening advanced settings. From there open the schedules on the left column and then program update schedule, this will tell you about your updates.
Hi 'gissing.......have you 'set-up' automatic updates ? .......right click on the icon in the system tray...and select' user interface' .....then select 'update manager'........click 'automatic updates' and then the time for it to happen.

Thank you. Brilliantly clear and helpful answers. One more question: are the times shown on AVG US or UK times?
what is the cost for AVG8 after the freesession
Re: US or UK times.

Neither, really - it's whatever your computer says it is.
elite - it's permanently free.

You pay for extras if you want them, most people don't. AVG consistently comes out top of polls of anti-virus software, and for good reason - it's very very good.
