Hi. Trying to set up my Sony Bravia (40W2000) picture settings. Happy with the picture quality but have noticed when the picture has a blue background, i.e blue sky, or tv studio backdrop, the blue shimmers and changes which is a bit of a distraction. Is there a setting a need to change on the tv. Thank you!

they all do it to an extent .... but the bigger the picture the more noticeable it is
CRT is quite slow ... so all the little blocks and imperfections blend together....
lcd/plasma has a limited number of colours to play with so it's less easy to blend subtle differences)
even the largest screens are low res when you compare them to PC monitors

Viewing distances: While there are a lot of variables in these calculations, viewing distances do vary according to the screen size. Here are some general guidelines.
Screen size (inches) Optimum viewing distance (feet)
20 - 27 2.5 5
32 - 37 6 - 8
42 - 46 10 14
50+ 12 - 16

so really your 40" should be viewed from next door!

the the mfrs all admit that cartoons are the best demo mode (which is why they always use richly coloured pikkies - cause the saturation covers the pixellation)
paler more detailed pikkies are avoided
