A friend in Oz has asked me to get her some DVD's. I have been told they are all country coded and European ones won't play in Oz. But a friend of hers in Oz says the new DVD players can play anything. I thought it was the DVD's that were coded, not the players. Can anyone advise me, please? I am very happy to take them to her when I go but don't want to get there and find she can't use them.

Thanks in advance

You can buy region free dvd players that will play all codes very cheaply - and if yours won't, you can hack them by inputting a code on the remote control very easily (usually).
Ethel, you are so very brilliant. I always look forward to reading your answers.

Now how do you hack a remote control? I've been trying for ages to program a universal remote and cannot get anywhere.
Don't get me on universal remotes - flipping things.

It seems to me the only good ones cost well over 100 and are the size of a small table and it's just not worth it, unless you are a 'must have' sort of person.
Region 2 and Region 4 WILL play on ordinary DVD Players in Oz.
I've used the website below to make one of my DVD players multi-region. It's really straightforward (and legal)! There are disclaimers but maybe worth a try?
