don't underestimate the discspace you're going to need....
alternatively ... you can always back the files up to CD!
.... seriously ...
you should get 15 (ish) albums to each cd

AC - might just put em onto disks then iif one disc will hold around 15 cd's that should free up some space.
northboy - yup we have windows media player - but will this then take up loads of space as AC (answer above) said?
i really need to move into the modern world now and sttart using my pc to its full potential...

the trick is to convert to mp3
(some might disagree ... but it's pretty much the standard format)
wav or proprietary formats are 1:1 ... so a 60 min cd holds 12 tracks.
mp3 at "normal" quality is about 1Mb per min ...
so a 700Mb cd (which holds about 715Mb) is impressive
on a dvd - it's staggering.
personally I find the nch offering easier to use .... but any ripper that saves to mp3 will do the trick

- or you could get an external drive and save the music on there. if you do not save the music on an external drive don't throw them out. if something should happened to your computer, chances are you could lose all your music.
