they did a very good comparison on the gadget show on channel 5.basically for purchasing and set-up it has to be the mac as there is only 1 version of each model and only has 1 or 2 cables but for everything else performance etc etc the pc won hands down.they even ran a graphics demo side by side on the 2 machines where each maching had to convert the same photo using the same graphic package into another form.the mac wouldve been expected to win this as it is the graphics industry's computer of choice but the pc won and quite easily too !
for gaming again the pc wiped the floor with the mac.
also in the event of component failure the pc won as pc parts can be bought extremely easily whereas apple parts can only be sold through apple approved dealers and will cost the earth !
I've used Macs for the last 10 years or so as a graphic designer and I'd recommend nothing else. They are great for image manipulation and video editing. The international commercial print/publishing industry is Mac-based and so is a sizable majority of the music industry. Macs tend to have more 'grunt' than PCs so for example a PC with a 2.5ghz processor is actually slower in practice than a 2.5ghz Mac processor. These days the operating system is very intuitive and is designed to appeal to the home-user too. One added bonus is that Macs are still rarely targeted with viruses, as hackers tend to aim for the more common Windows platform, to do the most damage. Since I've been using Macs I've only received (and stopped!) 2 viruses. I prefer to think of the PC v Mac argument as "do you want a Ford (a PC) or a Bentley (Mac)"? ;)
