The bulb in my touch control lap shorted out, replaced the bulb but, the touch control no longer works! Any ideas please on how I get it back to the way it was or, do I have to use the wall switch for ever?

If this has happened once, it is likely to happen the next time - even if you change the unit for a new replacement. Until the designers have sorted this out, best to get your money back.
