Purpose of an online form..

heya. im doing an ict assignment and one of the parts to answer is 'What is the purpose of an online form?'
i really don't know how to put it into a sentence (i know what it is just not how to type it!)
if anybody could help :)

what are the disadvantage if it's a legal document?
