Try getting a copy of DVDShrink which is freely available on the web if you search. This allows you to trim off things like the credits and unnecessary footage.

how and what do i search for as dont really no what i am looking for and will they be easy to install and follow and what is the general cost of these

DVDShrink is free. Try going here:

http://www.videohelp.com

where you'll find loads of guides from beginners level up, and links to software. Don't be put off by the (IMO) cluttered main page - it's a goldmine of information.

some dvd manufacturers call a gigabyte 1000 megabytes when it is really 1024 megabytes.  This is where the missing megabytes are going.
