my friend has just been given a computer but its full of crap. is there a way to restore every fileon the computer to how it was when it was new? for free as they have very little money. its a packard bell computer. thanks for your time and help.

No legal way, unless there is a coa sticker with the key number, somewhere on the back or side of the computer.
If there is he could borrow a disc and format and reinstall from that.
trish is almost there ... but the first question is ... do you (they) have the disk(s) that came with the computer?

there could be a "make recovery disks" option in the main menu ...
or try searching for a folder called i386

Packard Bell come with a built in recovery/restore program,
F11 key on start up...caught me out until i read the instruction book
chas is right, Packard Bell have a D Drive which is recovery only. If you use this you will be asked if you want a destructive restore...this is the option that puts it back to as it left the factory.
