PC connectivity

I have a Fujisu Siemens desk top wth VGA output and a HDMI socket. The monitor is a Wharfedale TV with standard pc 'D' input. It is also HD ready and has HDMI input socket .At present the set up Is VGA- DVI adapter and standard cble which is satisfactory. I have now got an HDMI cable and when this is connected to Pc and monitor and HDMI is selected on TV input source I get an on screen message "No Signal". and nowt happens..When using HDMI connectivity does the PC have to receive an instruction and if so - What and how!. Any ideas??

Probably. It looks like your TV needs your PC to output an HD signal.

1) First find out the type of video card/motherboard you have:

Windows Key + Break -> Device Manager

2) Download and install the latest driver software. You may need to get this from the manufacturers website.


3) Once you have installed these you need to right click on your desktop and get to the video configuration (this process / terminology is different on different setups so you'll have to work it out yourself)

4) Once there you will need to set your output type to HD (720p will probably be ok unless you have a very large tv when use 1080p if you have it, if not use 1080i).

Thanks for the advice - I will try that and see how I go. I was always under the impression that an HDMI connection on PC would automatically override the VGA/DVI output, but maybe I was misinformed. (not for the first time) Thanks again

One should not override the other, you should even be able to have both working at the same time and have two monitors, one from the VGA/DVI and one from the HDMI but you need to make sure your PC knows the type of signal to put out of the HDMI port (it may just simply need enabling that's all). 720p is the safest option to start with but you can check in tour monitor/tv manual to see what resolutions it supports.

I have a DVI/HDMI output and in the PC display settings it picks up the TV automatically (as in it knows there is a display connected) but I needed to set the properties properly for the picture to display correctly.
