cant get my computor on the internet

Hi I just got a second hand computor.i formatted the disc and installed xp pro.I then put on the aol broadband disc which came with my existing adsl modem and tried to connect .It refuses to connect ,The aol disc checks that everything is ok and it seems to be What am I doing wrong .Help would be appreciated Thanks

Using a computer with an Internet connection, you need to go to the website of the computer manufacturer and go to the drivers and downloads section. Find the model of computer and then download the driver for the network card. Save it onto a memory stick and put this in the computer with no network connection. Run the .exe file you saved on the memory stick in order to install the network card driver.

You should now have a working network card. You can then go to Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware -> Device Manager. Any device with a yellow question mark indicates that a driver is needed. Go to the computer manufacturer's website again and download and install the necessary drivers.
