Is there a mobile internet device on the market that doesn't try to do everything. All I want is a fast internet connection with a fair sized screen, nothing else matters.

they call 'em laptops - connected to a land line or fiber broadband fast and clear

hc I've looked at the site and it looks good if you can believe the hype. I would like to rent it first , if that's an option, to see if it does work on a broadband dongle . My experience in this area on a netbook was a complete failure.

ACthe Troll I assume the mobile laptops you refer to have a landline extension lead several miles long.
modeller, that pocketsurfer doesn't need a dongle of any kind. It is set up and ready to connect.
If you have access to wifi,

the iPod Touch

Thanks hc I have been onto their site and you are right it doesn't need a dongle which is great. As far as I can see , as long as it works in my area, there is only one other snag , they don't offer a 'Pay as you go Option. ' The purchase price includes 20 hours a month for 12 months , thereafter its 40 a year for 20 hours a month and being as I probably will only use half that amount I was looking for a 'Pay as you Go ' option such as that offered by Vodafone , unfortunately their dongle didn't work.

Gromit Thanks ! I don't know much about wifi . How does that connect to the Internet.? I will go on to the apple site and try to work it out.

Gromit I've looked into the possibility of using an i Pod Touch but I want to access the internet occasionally from a friend' s house where there isn't a PC and no where near a hotspot. However thanks for the suggestion.
I would say any large screen Android mobile phone would satisfy this. An HTC Wildfire for example (get a SIM free one for about £130 from Phones4U) and then tether if required. You can customise an Android phone to do as much, or as little as you want and I know from experience that internet connection (tethered and direct) is completely simple. Get yourself a GiffGaff SIM and you get truly unlimited bandwidth for a tenner a month (click here for a free SIM with £5 of credit already on it > http://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/rhort ) and they'll throw 250 anytime minutes and unlimited (again truly unlimited) texts in gratis. No worries :)
