Hi there - I have a contract phone with vodafone and just had an upgrade. Previously I have passed my old phone onto my sister who is pay as you go with vodafone. Wanted to pass this old one onto my dad who is pay as you go with Virgin. It has come up with phone restricted and is looking for a code which I had expected. My dad rarely uses is phone, odd text here and there but wanted to give the camera a go. What would be the best thing to do here - contact Vodafone and see if my dad could change over to pay as you go with them and keep his number or should I be trying to get a code from somewhere to enable him to use it? thanks

I think if you contact Vodafone they will give the the unlock code for free. Or they may charge �15 for the code. But I imagine as you are still a customer with them they will give you the code for free.

I would have thought they would either charge me or try to get my dad to change to vodafone but will give them a go - thanks

Just say you are planning to sell the phone so you would like to unlock it first. They don't need to know that your dad is having the phone.

Your father can use his pay as you go Virgin Sim card in the phone after unlocking its network lock. Unlocking the network/carrier lock is easy. Most of the GSM phone can be unlocked using unlock codes. But,Apple iPhones can be unlocked remotely using remote unlock service. They provide unlock services for almost all GSM phones.
