I accidentally deleted an e-mail from my in box - clicked on Delete instead of Send/Receive.  I went into the deleted folder thinking I'd find it there but it was not there.  (We recently installed Broadband - if that is relevant.)  Shoud the e-mail have been in the deleted folder?  Is there any reason why it was not there?

You haven't mentioned what Email client you are using so i will assume it is Outlook.

There are a couple of ways that you can permanently delete emails within Outlook...the first is by holding SHIFT down when you click on delete. If you just did a normal delete it should go into your deleted items folder, but if you then exited from Outlook it may then empty your deleted items, thus removing them permanently. I say may because this a setting you can change in tools/options, but I think as a default it is set up to always empty on exit.

Thank you very much - I think I had a brainstorm.  Your tip on how to permanently delete is very useful by the way.
