I may want to transfer photos from slides to a computer. Assuming there are some special gadgets that facilitate this in good quality, can anyone suggest how to look for such a thing. Suggestions on alternative solutions would be welcome.

Hi Karl. My Canon 3000F scanner has this attachment already in place, but  there is a booklet devoted to software (inside weekend mags) with a special gadget just for this very purpose. I'm sure someone else will have the answer, but if not I'll try to find the name if you wish.

Thanks Cetti, if you find any details (at your convenience) and nothing has been entered here before you get back, then I would be grateful......
Pop into your local Jessops ot photo store, they will sell suitable scanners. If you go to the Jessops site ( http://www.jessops.com/shop.cfm ) and look in the "Scanners" section, the first entry seems to be what you need. If you shop around/check eBay, you can probably shave a bit off the price. You may find it cheaper/better value to buy the Canon Cetti has or something similar, though!

We bought our Canon CanoScan 3000F for about 70 from Jessops 18 months ago, and in that time the models that include attachments for  slides and transparancies have advanced  in leaps and bounds making ours look quite archaic.

I would be inclined to do as LeMarchand has suggested, have a chat with your local Jessops about a film scanner as it sounds as though you may have a lot of slides, so they will point you in the right direction - then look for the cheapest on the internet.

I still haven't given up looking for that gadget - but in the meantime have a look at 10 pages of film scanners:

I do find very large links!!
