I have a HD ready TV (not 1080p). If I purchase a dvd which can upscale to 1080p & connect it by HDMI lead will it make any difference.

im not bothered about a blue ray player as my pic is excellent anyway and yes seen many hi deff pics on demo they are good but not worth the extra cost at the moment, your "upscale" dvd player will make a little difference but not a lot as its not a blue ray one,you can get a better picture cheaper by going for a composite connection from your existing player (if it has one) to your tv

A lot depends on the type of equipment you have at your disposal as regards upscaling.
deggers316 is on the right lines, but have a look on above site as it will give you some ideas as to what you can do to possibly improve picture quality of your DVD's.
