hi i have a sky box with a sky card which i got a few years ago for a one off payment of £100 can i purchase a sky plus box to replace it. and do i need a new card to go with it.and would i need a sky fitter to set it up.if it is possible to change.
A Sky+ box uses a twin LNB on the dish with two cables to the box.
It might be best to use a Sky or private aerial fitter but it is possible to fit a new LNB yourself and they are not expensive from Maplin Electronics or Ebay. Then the new cable can usually be run through the same route as the old one.
You won't need a new card but you will have to ask Sky to upgrade you to a Sky+ service - the good news is that there's no extra cost to your subscription.
Have Sky changed the pricing policy for Sky+ then? When I got my Sky+ box it was £10 extra a month unless I took either the Sports or Movie packages. I took both so it wasn't an issue.
They told us that it was a simple matter of sending a signal to our viewing card to unlock the Sky+ features.
As we didnt get any extra channels there would be no cost.
We dont have the sports or movies.
