Surely the sales person tried about 57 times to sell you an extended service plan when you bought the camcorder!

Why on earth do you want to buy an extended service plan? Most people put a lot of effort into not buying one, when being hassled by a sales assistant.

The only 'good review' of extended warranty plans is one that recommends you not to buy one in the first place.
These things are insurance-backed warranties, damnit.
Which means all the premiums go into a big pot, the seller of the policy takes his big cut - probably 30% of the premium. The insurer then deducts his management and overhead charges and profit - probably another 20%.
Which means that of your premium, let's say only 50% goes into supporting the Camcorders (whatever) that break down.
It's bad enough having to be forced by law to buy insurance on motor vehicles - don't waste money when at least you have an option.

I wouldn't buy one myself- usually the manufacturer's warrany covers a certain amount of time and after that, especially with electronics these days- it's often cheaper to buy a new one if the old one breaks.

But I do know a several people who speak highly of the Square Trade warranties for high end electronics and such, so if you are bound and determined to get one, that's where I'd look for a start.

also to be serious.. In my experience most electrical stuff goes wrong within the first couple of months if it's going to fail! if it lasts a year the chances are it will last the next couple. So I wouldn't bother with extended warranties
