keeping mobile number and changing companys?

my o2 contract has just run out,o2 aren't offering me any good deals,but if i look on internet,phones4u are offering much better deals but still with o2,is it possible to end the contract with o2 over the phone,and then open another o2 one up with phones4u?how can this be when they are the same company??
