Further to my previous threads, and without getting tooo technical as I can't anyway, I am having trouble getting network coverage on my laptop, as it is too far away from my router - Windows 7 on laptop, speedtouch router on my desktop PC upstairs. I wondered if it would be possible to buy another router, and keep the laptop plugged into this, and probably plugged into the wall as well, in my kitchen - so I can actually use it while I watch the tellie ? (How sad is that ...). Just a thought ...I want to use the same service provider, obviously, and not pay any more for the provider's service. I can't do anything technical so please don't go over my head with techie ideas. Thanks all :)

Is there another phone point in the house, so you can relocate the router to a better position?

If not, consider buying a telephone extension point kit, and fitting one closer to where you usually use the laptop.
If that means moving the router away from the desktop, then get one of these for the desktop and run that wirelessly aswell.

I do have a phone point downstairs although not in the kitchen. Doesn't my speedtouch router have to be attached to my desktop PC upstairs though ? With my luck, if I move the router, I wont get the internet upstairs either.
The router doesn't have to connect (by means of a cable) to any PC - you can site the router wherever you want with a 'phone extension cable, (e.g. midway between the desktop and laptop), and then have both machines connect wirelessly.
In our house we have a laptop and two desktops, all connected wirelessly.

The one desktop is connected using one of those things in my Amazon link, and it works perfectly, with no problems.
