Out of sinc.

I have transferred a VHS tape onto my hard drive with the intention of burning it to DVD But on reviewing it I've found that the the audio is out of sinc with the person speaking! Does any editing software correct this and how?? With the hope that the software I have will do the trick!!! Thanks!!!!

It depends on the file format (avi, mpeg VOB etc) and whether it's been 'muxed' as far as I know.
If you open it in something like Movie Maker you should be able to see the soundtrack and the video in two separate windows, usually one can be shifted independantly of the other then re-saved.

I would also suggest a very good FREE video editor called Avidemux from www.avidemux.org.
Underneath the selection entry for the Audio choice you can adjust the audio output by either + or - the required time in milliseconds.

Thanks for that Wak,when you make the adjustments do you see the difference as you go along or is it a case of stopping the recording and make "hit or miss" corrections hoping that you get it right?

I use Sony Vegas 8 to make Youtube videos and the way I line up audio with video is by 'magnifying' the tracks clicking and dragging one against the other (forewards or backwards) then playing to see/hear if everything lines up ok. It's a bit of a 'knack' but you get used to it.

Hi Codswallop, With Avidemux I usually play the video and guess the delay between the end of a sentence on the screen (watch the lips) and the end of the appropriate sound.
Half a second = 500 millisecs. Make the approximate adjustment and see if the sound is any nearer to the picture.
It's a case of trial and error till you get it spot on but I must admit that I haven't used this particular adjustment much as all my videos are OK on the sound.
The actual editing part is great to use, select the adverts you don't want and then just delete. Finally "Save Video".
