Plasma or Lcd television

I find really big widescreens are best as plasma. LCD is great for smaller ones.

as Chuck is the main man regarding all things techie I don't think he'd have one if that was the case....

LCD's are generally only available up to about 40inch, over that and most screens tend to be Plasma (though the available size of LCD screen is increasing all the time)

They both have their advantages and disadvantages,

plasma screens tend to be brighter have better colour representation than LCD's and deal with fast movement better but they can suffer from screen burn, cost more to run (and are a lot heavier)

LCD don't suffer from screen burn, are cheaper to run, a lot lighter but the colours don't tend to be so accurately reproduced and they can suffer from motion blur on fast movement.

as for life span they are about identical, and both should last for over 10years with normal use.

Thanks Chuck, Im looking at getting 40-42inch that can be wall mounted, so if weight is an issue maybe lcd is the way to go?

I have Pioneer Plasma XDE version .. Best around at the time. No trouble at all in 2 years, so far. I love Plasma picture, for sure better on pretty large screens than LCD.

Hi

i waited for years for either LCD or Plasma to be of decent quality, and finally i have bought a Panasonic 42" G10 plasma with 600hz and frankly it is stunning.

It depends on your budget, obviously if you can afford over a £1000 the Samsung o.l.e.d. are awesome but if you are looking for around £500 again Samsung plasma at this time really cant be beaten.

LCD tv`s are superb up to a point but if 42 plus is your wish, i have not come across one to date that has been anywhere close to a plasma in terms of picture quality. It is also worth really looking around, my tv was listed at over a £1000 but in the end i managed to get a superb deal from a local Panasonic dealer for £785 with a FREE 5 year full panasonic guarantee.....

However, the reality is research, look at reviews and shopper comments, because my experience at shops etc is that lighting and quality of input varies wildly and does not represent what you will actually see in your own living room. Each manufacturer also gives you completely different data to substantiate their greatness, so again you cant rely on specs, they should be made to have a standard benchmark...one day !!
