Appending MP3 files

I have several MP3 files that I would like to combine into one big MP3 file (they are individual tracks from a concept album which I'd like to make into a single MP3 since I want to listen to the whole album in one go rather than the individual tracks - but please don't let the idea of a concept album put you off)

I have Audacity but have never played with it much and can't see any obvious way to append tracks using it; or have I missed something obvious?

Since I'm only going to want to do this sort of thing a few times (at most) I don't want to pay for anything, so what freeware is there?

Why do you need to 'merge' the individual tracks in to one mp3 file? Could you not just place the tracks in to their own playlist (if you are using iTunes) and specify them to be part of a 'gapless album'?

The sound is not great so turn up your volume to hear the bloke explaining the task.

If this is not what you require, just Google "combine mp3 file" and take your pick from the list of options it throws up.

Thanks for the link Fanriffic that has worked - I can't believe how dim I've been because I edit videos quite often and don't give a second thought to adding new tracks to provide a transition from one clip to another.

And snags I don't like iTunes so would only use it if there was no alternative.
