That is a fault. Possibly laser diode or it's power board.
So long as you have tried other discs, it is retiring, by the sound of it.

Albags could be correct in his assumptions but you need to check your Scart Leads and make sure they are seated properly and making good contact. Check everything before taking back to shop under the Guarantee.......
