iTunes synchronisation

I loaded about 130 CDs onto my iPod Touch and I am delighted with what I have done...for a non-technical person. However, while I was bathing in glory, the Hard Drive of our laptop went belly up and we had to shell out for a new one. Mercifully, I had backed up all the (Word/Excel etc) files to an external hard drive, so when Windows 7 was newly loaded onto our (new) hard drive, it was not difficult to reload them. Sadly, the iTunes library did not come with them all. Our library is devoid of music now. If I synchronise my iPod now, will I synchronise it to nothing, and end up with no music on the iPod? Perhaps the iPod will put all its music on the laptop...or am I dreaming? Is there anyone out there who knows more than I do? Rhetorical question; I know that nearly everyone does where technology is concerned....

Absolutely! There are many brilliant folk in the technology department who know more than a lot, and I believe some know it all. They are brilliant and very kind with their knowledge.

This is the only frustration with i pods, you can lose all your collection with just a snap of your fingers if your laptop or PC decides to die on you and you have to constantly keep backing up.
Will they ever release an i pod that only synchronises the music you wish to put on at that time and the rest is saved and cannot lose no matter what is happening to the software.

When you recovered to the new hard drive, did you re install iTunes? If so it would create a new blank library. Your old library will either have been recovered to the new disc or still exist on your backup drive. So job 1, locate where your old iTunes Library is, 2. If it not anywhere on your new drive then move it over from the backup drive. 3. Start iTunes, open Preferences, click Advanced, then in the top section iTunes Media Folder Location click Change then browse to the old iTunes library folder and click Choose
