'Stop' shortcut
Somebody once told me how to put a 'stop' icon on the desktop so that when it was clicked, the machine would close down without the rigmarole of going to 'Start', 'Shut down', 'Yes, I'm sure I want to shut down, honest.' I've recently changed computers and can't remember how I did it before. Do any of you clever people know?

in the Command Line text box, (Make sure that there isn't a space between the comma and the exitwindows
parameter otherwise the command won't work.) To continue, click Next. In the next dialog box, give the shortcut a name like 'Shut Down Windows'
Sorry, I didn't know you had xp. That one is for Windows 9x.
Try this one:
To create your Windows XP shut down icon, follow these steps exactly:
RIGHT click on your Desktop
Click on New
Click on Shortcut
Type: shutdown -s -t 01
Click the Next button
Type a name for your shortcut
Click the Finish button
I've got XP and the 'shutdown - s - t 01' didnt work? Just a black box (batchfile?) popped up and vanished nothing else happened - also the box wasnt there quick enough for me to read any of it.
I Also tried the 'Windows key - U -Enter', as suggested by Gandy. That also didnt work, i got a window pop up with utility manager and the narator started talking?
Have I got a computer that has a mind of it's own??
