i bought my mobile resistant husband A Binatone speakeasy phone and persuaded him to regularly have it to hand although its unlikely he will use it much.

Incoming calls only have about three rings and by the time he's found it it has gone to voicemail which he is not familiar with. Family members get over this by redialling by which time he may have answered. It is on a sim with Vodafone pay as you go but we cannot work out how to change settings to get it to ring for longer or to set up voicemail. Binatone referred me to Vodafone but I do not seem to be able to find the relevant information. any help much appreciated or he will give up like he did when he had one before! thanks very much

I had a similar problem with a PAYG phone a few years ago. The ring setting could not be changed and when i looked it to it i was told it was done deliberately as a way for the phone company to make a bit more money as you pay to access your voicemail.

thanks for responding but it does not help really move forward. If its advertised as being easy to use it should be would you advise I return it as unfit for purpose or what? is there a better alternative?

Have you gone into the call settings on the phone?

you could always turn the voicemail facility off - just ring the number you normally would to access voicemails and go intot he menu. Then people could ring him for however long it takes for him to answer. It sounds like a voicemail facility isn't all that much use to him anyway

No manual? Most settings like ring duration can be changed.

Thanks again. I have a user guide but its quite basic and I can find no way to change the number of rings. However, I will try switching voicemail off to see if this does the trick. As you say bednobs, he doesn't really want to use it anyway - will report back

Hi hope you do find a way to switch it of. We never could. No way to get money back in law unless its faulty or not as described. What you bought was a phone. Its a phone and it works, just not exactly as you might want it.

Today I phoned ~Vodafone no problem getting voicemail turned off, offered choice of that or increasing number of rings Thanks bednobs for that advice seems the best solution as hubby not likely to use voicemail, also thanks for all other helpful suggestions from ABers
